My name is Jason Laplow and I am a first-year student at Michigan State University, seeking a degree in journalism with a double minor in sports journalism and broadcasting.
I grew up in Midland, Michigan and attended H.H. Dow High School, where I gained experience as a scholastic journalist for all four years, having been the managing sports editor and eventually editor-in-chief of my high school newspaper, Update, as well as the leader of the video communications club from my freshman year on. I helped to co-found my high school's broadcast program, Bolt Media, and was given the title of executive producer for my senior year, its first year in existence.
I have a girlfriend, Hannah, who I met at a high school journalism summer camp three years ago. My mom, Melissa, and Dad, Mike, have been married for nearly 30 years and raised me as well as my two older sisters, Sydney, 24, and Hailey, 22 at our home in Midland.
I am very passionate about journalism, specifically relating to sports, and hope to someday cover my favorite sport, baseball, as an on-air talent. I'm also very interested in technology and always seek to be on the cutting edge of knowledge when it comes to consumer electronics.
Overall, I love being challenged and being given opportunities where I know that I can show the value of my work.
